Visitor Center 888-843-3441. Alamogordo, New Mexico sits at the western foot of the Sacramento Mountains just thirty miles west of Cloudcroft. High on the mountain slope overlooking the city is the New Mexico Museum of Space History. Alamogordo, NM also has many other attractions for kids of all ages. The Alameda Park and Zoo has been around since 1898. It touts 90 species of animals on its well shaded seven acre facility. Just to the north on White Sands Blvd is the Toy Train Depot and Museum. Go for a long ride in a miniture train, shop for unique gifts, admire some real train history. Don't miss the arts and crafts district of New York Ave in the downtown area. White Sands National Monument is just twenty minutes away. Its like no place on earth. The Alamogordo Fourth of July Fireworks celebration is one of the best in the region. Alamogordo hosts the White Sands Invitational Hot Air Balloon competion each September.

Visitor Center 505-354-2273. Capitan New Mexico is located in a scenic area were contrasts in vistas abound. The Village Center is located about the intersection of US 380 and NM 48 roughly 20 miles north of central Ruidoso. The community has about 1500 residents and claims an educationally top rated public school system with competitive interscholastic sports programs. Capitan has a charming downtown area that is a step back in time. spend a spring afternoon. The Village of Capitan hosts three major events each year: Smokey Bear Days, an all American Fourth of July celebration and Parade and the Lincoln County fair which touts a popular rodeo each August.

Carrizozo
Visitor Center 505-648-2732 Carrizozo, NM is located at the intersection of US 380 and US 54 at the foot of the northwestern corner of the Sacremento Mountains and White Mountain Wilderness. The Valley of the Fires Recreation Area is a popular stop.The lava fields are reached by driving 4 miles west along NM 380 from the junction with US 54. Spend a few hours hiking the established trails and picknicking at well maintain facilities. Drive time from Cloudcroft is about an hour and fifteen minutes.

The Spencer Theater is a jewel of our region. Located about an hour away north of Ruidoso it hosts national musical talent and Broadway shows. The Spencer hosts both winter and summer performance seasons. Stay in Cloudcroft and catch a show at the Spencer.

Just an about an hours drive north of Ruidoso is the artist community of White Oaks, New Mexico. Establishment of this community picked up circa 1878 when prospector John J. Baxter discovered Gold. The area is named for the White Oak trees that surronded a local spring. A visit to this community is a taste of the old west. Turn off four miles north of Carrizozo on US 54 and spend a day visiting the School House Museum, Art Galleries and several historic homes.
